Safety standard
IEC 60335-2-103 2023
What it covers
The IEC household-appliance safety part for drives of gates, doors and windows, read with IEC 60335-1. It covers the electrical and mechanical safety of the drive unit; it does not cover drives meant only for commercial or industrial use by trained staff. Safety in use of the complete door or gate, such as force limits at the closing edge, is dealt with in separate product standards. Relevant to: gate, door and window operator makers worldwide.

Certification programs
- IMQ mark The IMQ mark is a voluntary Italian safety mark: IMQ tested the product against the applicable standards and monitors production. It is mainly relevant for Italian drive manufacturers. Official lookup
- IECEE CB Scheme A CB Test Certificate is issued by a National Certification Body (NCB) on the basis of tests by a CB Testing Laboratory against the cited IEC standard (for tubular motors typically IEC 60335-2-97). Other member bodies can accept it as the basis for national certification, so it supports approvals in other markets; it is not a mark on the product. Public records give the model list, a ratings text, the standard, the issuing body, the date and the status. Official lookup
- VDE mark The VDE mark is a voluntary safety mark: VDE tested the product against the relevant European and IEC safety standards (for tubular motors typically EN 60335-2-97) and monitors production. VDE certificates list the certified models, and some certificates (for example for Somfy Sonesse 40, Becker R8/R12/R20 EVO and Geiger GJ56) include a technical annex with ratings per model such as voltage, frequency, torque, speed, power, current, protection class, IP rating and rated operating time. Official lookup
- NF mark (electrical equipment) NF is a voluntary French certification mark. For electrical equipment it indicates that a certification body tested the product against the applicable standards and follows up production, which goes beyond a manufacturer declaration such as CE. Official lookup
- CE marking The manufacturer states, in an EU Declaration of Conformity, that the product meets the EU legislation that applies to it. For motorised shading drives this is typically the Low Voltage Directive and the EMC Directive, or the Radio Equipment Directive when the product contains a radio. Under the Low Voltage and EMC Directives the manufacturer can carry out the conformity assessment itself; under the Radio Equipment Directive this is allowed only when the relevant harmonised standards are applied in full, otherwise a notified body must be involved. CE marking is therefore a manufacturer declaration, not an independent certificate, and the mark alone does not say which standards were applied (the Declaration of Conformity lists them).
