Protocols
- Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) A low-power Bluetooth variant used for Matter device commissioning.
- Cluster A Matter data model concept: a collection of related attributes, commands, and events that model a unit of functionality on an Endpoint.
- Commissioning The Matter process of provisioning a new device onto a Fabric, typically via BLE then handing off to the operational network.
- Device type A named, standardized classification of a Matter or Zigbee device that determines its mandatory clusters and behavior.
- Endpoint A Matter data model concept: an addressable, independently controllable unit of functionality within a Node.
- Fabric A Matter data model concept describing a logically isolated network of Matter nodes sharing the same root of trust.
- Matter An application-layer connectivity standard for smart home devices, defined by the Connectivity Standards Alliance.
- Node A Matter data model concept: a single device instance participating in one or more Fabrics.
- RF (radio frequency) control Wireless remote control of a garage door or gate operator using radio frequency signals.
- Thread A low-power, IPv6-based wireless mesh networking protocol used as a transport for Matter.
- Wi-Fi (802.11) A family of wireless local area networking standards, used as a transport for Matter-over-Wi-Fi devices.
- Zigbee A low-power wireless mesh networking standard, one of the CSA-IOT certified program types.
Safety
- Child safety cord A corded operating mechanism on a window covering that is subject to child-safety entanglement requirements under EN 13120/16433/16434.
- Entrapment protection Safety systems and requirements intended to prevent entrapment injuries from moving door/gate operators, per DASMA technical data sheets.
Mechanics
- Counterbalance system A torsion-spring or extension-spring mechanism that offsets the weight of a garage door, in scope of ANSI/DASMA 103.
- Gate operator A powered mechanism that automates the opening and closing of a vehicular or pedestrian gate.
- Sectional overhead door A garage door composed of hinged panel sections that travel up and along the ceiling track, in scope of ANSI/DASMA 102.
