Methodology

How OpenAxia collects, checks and scores product data — and what it does not do.

What we cover

Motors used in buildings: tubular motors for roller shutters, blinds and awnings, curtain motors and tracks, venetian blind motors, door and gate operators, window openers and chain actuators, and the remotes, controls and accessories around them.

Brands are included because their products fall in that scope. No brand is included or excluded because it pays or does not pay.

Sources and their priority

  1. Manufacturer datasheets and catalogs (PDF).
  2. Manufacturer product pages.
  3. Public registries, such as certification databases.
  4. Other published sources, only when nothing above covers the value.

When sources disagree, the higher one wins and the conflict stays visible. The same order is used in our Editorial policy.

How values are extracted and checked

Values are read with deterministic parsers first. AI may help locate a value, but nothing it suggests is published without a human review. Every published value keeps the excerpt and the link it came from.

We measure extraction precision against a hand-checked gold set before each parser change.1

The seven value states

Value
A number or text published by a source, shown with its unit and a link to that source.
Standard
The feature is included on every variant, as stated by the manufacturer.
Optional
The feature is available at extra cost or on some variants only.
None
The manufacturer states the product does not have the feature.
Not published by the manufacturer
We looked and found no published value. This is not the same as "none".
Not applicable
The parameter does not apply to this kind of product (a remote has no torque).
Unknown
We have not checked this parameter for this product yet.

In tables, the last three states all show as the same grey dash (—). A screen reader reads out which one it is; Compare prints the state in words.

How completeness is scored

Completeness counts 7 core parameters: torque, speed, voltage, power supply, control interface, IP rating, noise level. A parameter counts only when a value is published with a source. A product reaches the 60% mark when at least 5 of the 7 are covered.

Some core parameters do not apply to every product line — a remote control has no torque — so averages for controls and accessories are low by construction. Completeness describes our data, not the product.

Today, 9.7% of 2,873 public products reach that mark. Average completeness by product line:2

Average share of the core parameters published with a source, per product line.

Brands, series, models and part numbers

We model brand → series → model → variant or part number. A model is one product a manufacturer sells under one name; its part numbers are the orderable variants. When two records turn out to describe the same product, they are merged and the duplicate is withdrawn.

How often data is updated

Manufacturer sources are re-read on a schedule and when we learn of a change. “Last verified” on a page is the most recent date a source confirmed the values shown.

Manufacturer submissions

Manufacturers can claim their brand for free. We review each claim by hand, and their corrections go through the same editorial review as any other; public-source facts stay visible alongside them.

Images and documents

We only show images and documents we may host: public records, and files a manufacturer has authorised. Everything else is a link to the original page. Where we have dimensions, we draw our own schematic instead of copying a photo.

Commercial neutrality

Paying OpenAxia never changes our data, rankings or completeness scores.

If we ever publish sponsored content, it will be labelled Sponsored.

Corrections

Every data page has a “Report an error” link. An editor reviews each report; adopted changes are listed in the public corrections log with the old and new value.
