OpenAxia for AI agents and developers

The same published, human-reviewed data behind every OpenAxia page is available as a read-only JSON API, an MCP server and machine-readable discovery files. Every spec, company fact and certification carries its original source and observation date. No API key is required.

Formerly MotoBase.

Discovery

REST API v1

Responses use one envelope: { ok, data, error, meta }. Lists carry meta.total, meta.page and meta.limit; errors carry error.code (invalid_request, invalid_cursor, not_found, rate_limited, internal_error). Unknown query parameters are rejected. A slug is an opaque identifier: use only slugs returned by the API.

Identifiers: a product slug is the last segment of its canonical page URL (/products/<readable>-<publicId>), a company slug the last segment of /companies/<slug>. /api/v1/products/{slug} also accepts the bare publicId; /api/v1/companies/{slug} also accepts a former company slug. Legacy numeric ids still resolve but are deprecated: those responses carry a Deprecation header, a Link to the canonical API URL and meta.deprecatedIdentifier: true. A withdrawn record answers 410 with error.code gone.

  • GET /api/v1/products — Search and filter published products (q, page, sort, category, manufacturer, applications, technologies, certified, {attr}_min / {attr}_max, series, lifecycle, partNumber). 24 per page.
  • GET /api/v1/products/{slug} — One product: every spec with value, unit, source, observedAt and assertionType; publicly verifiable certifications; brand, series, lifecycle and evidence-checked relations.
  • GET /api/v1/series — Published product series (brand, category, page, limit).
  • GET /api/v1/series/{brand}/{series} — One series: members, variant-axis values with claim ids, axis matrix and verified replacements.
  • GET /api/v1/companies — Search published companies.
  • GET /api/v1/companies/{slug} — One company: claim-backed facts, ownership, product and certification counts.
  • GET /api/v1/certifications — Certifications filtered by product, company or standard (page, limit).
  • GET /api/v1/signals — Human-reviewed news and compliance updates (type, page, limit).
  • GET /api/v1/changes — Incremental change feed across products, companies, certifications and signals (cursor, limit).
  • GET /api/v1/spec-templates — The six spec-category parameter templates (version, row and required counts).
  • GET /api/v1/spec-templates/{specCategory} — One template: groups, rows, required, comparable, compare rule, tolerance, conditional applicability.

MCP server

Remote Streamable HTTP at /api/mcp — stateless, read-only, no authentication. Tools:

  • motobase_search_products — search / filter products
  • motobase_get_product — one product with sourced specs and certifications
  • motobase_compare_products — 2–6 products side by side
  • motobase_list_certifications — certifications by product, company or standard
  • motobase_recent_signals — recent reviewed industry news
  • motobase_get_spec_template — parameter template of a spec category (rows, required, compare rules)
  • motobase_get_series — one product series with its variant matrix and lineage
  • motobase_find_replacement — replacement candidates for a motor, with per-spec fit and evidence
  • motobase_list_events — industry events calendar (trade fairs by type/country/region/month)

Examples

# Matter-certified tubular motors
curl "https://<this-site>/api/v1/products?category=tubular_motor&certified=1"

# One product, with the source of every spec value
curl "https://<this-site>/api/v1/products/{slug}"

# Keep a mirror in sync: first call without a cursor, then pass meta.cursor back
curl "https://<this-site>/api/v1/changes?limit=100"
curl "https://<this-site>/api/v1/changes?limit=100&cursor=<meta.cursor>"

The change feed orders events by update time and reports created (the record did not exist at your cursor position), updated and withdrawn (a product or company that was public and no longer is). Treat created and updated alike as upserts. Hard-deleted records are not reported; re-fetch a product when it appears as updated.

Limits and caching

Anonymous use: 60 requests per hour per IP, shared by the API and MCP tool calls. With a free API key — sent as Authorization: Bearer <key> or X-API-Key — 5,000 requests per day per key. Keys are issued on request ([email protected]); state your intended use and accept the attribution term below. Over the quota you receive HTTP 429 with Retry-After; an invalid or revoked key gets HTTP 401. Every response reports the remaining quota in RateLimit-* headers. /llms.txt, the sitemap and /api/v1 itself are not rate limited. Successful responses are cacheable for 60 seconds and carry an ETag; send it back as If-None-Match to get 304 Not Modified.

For data partnerships, bulk or higher-volume data access, and certification-database or manufacturer data requests, write to [email protected].

Data use and attribution

Data may be quoted and reused with attribution: cite "OpenAxia" and link to the record page. Each value carries its original source; verify important facts there.
