Privacy
What we collect
Only what you type into a form, plus the page you sent it from:
- email address, name, company, job title and your message, where the form asks for them;
- for a brand claim, the brand and what you want to fix first;
- for a data report, the page, the value and an optional source link;
- your consent choices and the version of the consent text you saw;
- a one-way hash of your IP address that changes every day, used only to stop abuse. We never store the IP address itself.
How we use it
- Data reports: to check and correct the value. Adopted changes are published without your details.
- Brand claims: to verify that you work for the brand and to reply to you.
- Contact messages: to reply to you.
- Early-access list for manufacturers: to tell you when demand reports and buyer inquiries open.
We count some actions in aggregate (for example, how often a product is compared). Those counters hold no personal data.
Links to other sites
Evidence links go straight to the source: registers, standards and the manufacturer's own documents. Other links pass through a short redirect on our own site (addresses starting with /go/). The redirect never adds anything to the destination address. Both kinds of link record the same fields, for the same purpose and retention period. Each time you follow one we record:
- which link it was, when, and the page on our site you clicked it from;
- a visitor code: either the anonymous code of your current browser tab, or a one-way hash of your IP address and browser that changes every day. We never store the IP address itself;
- the browser family (for example Chrome or Firefox), not the full browser string, and the country our network provider reports;
- whether the request came from an automated crawler, and, for our own staff only, which signed-in account clicked.
For an evidence link, your browser sends one small record when you click. It sets no new cookie and does not block or change your visit. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, the click is still counted, but only with an anonymous hash that changes every day and is not linked to the analytics session id. We never store the raw IP address or full user agent, and never sell these records.
We use these records to see which sources people rely on and to report how many visits we send to a manufacturer's site. Anything we share with users or manufacturers is a total by day and page, never an individual visitor. We are setting up automatic deletion of individual click records after 13 months; daily totals are kept.
How long we keep it
We keep inquiry records for as long as we need them to handle your request and improve the catalog.
Withdrawal and deletion
To have your data deleted or exported, email [email protected]; we will confirm when it is done. The same address withdraws any consent you gave on a form.
We do not send marketing email today. If you tick "Send me the monthly Motion Brief." on a form, we keep that choice and will ask you to confirm your address before the first issue of The Motion Brief.
When we start sending email, it will go through Resend, which processes the address on our behalf and only to deliver the message.
