Canadian standard
ISED radio standards (RSS) and ICES-003
What it covers
Canada regulates radio products through Radio Standards Specifications. A licence-exempt transmitter such as a remote or a 2.4 GHz module is certified against RSS-Gen (Issue 6 since 30 July 2026; Issue 5 certifications are accepted until 30 July 2027) and the relevant specific standard (for example RSS-210 or RSS-247) and listed with an ISED certification number. Digital apparatus without a transmitter follows ICES-003, which is based on the supplier's own testing and labelling. Products sold in both the US and Canada usually go through both processes.

Certification programs
- ISED Canada radio equipment certification Category I radio apparatus sold in Canada must be certified by ISED (or a recognised certification body) and is then listed in the Radio Equipment List (REL); Category II apparatus and equipment without a radio transmitter are not listed. Certified equipment is listed with its ISED certification number (often printed on the product as "IC: ..."), hardware version and model and marketing names. The listing concerns radio compliance only, not electrical safety.
