Manufacturer radio protocols

Elero ProLine

ProLine is elero's proprietary radio system for roller shutter, awning and blind motors. ProLine 2 is the newer generation with bidirectional devices that can confirm commands. Motors, receivers, transmitters and central units are taught to each other without a hub for basic use.

How it works

elero motors with an integrated radio receiver, and separate elero radio receivers that switch wired motors, are controlled by ProLine handheld, wall and timer transmitters.

Generations. The original ProLine family and the newer ProLine 2 family coexist on many sites. ProLine 2 devices are described by elero as bidirectional: the receiver confirms that it has carried out a command, and suitable transmitters can show the result. Whether a particular transmitter displays position or only success or failure depends on the model. Check the product sheet before promising position feedback to a customer.

Band and range. elero's 2026 catalogue states that ProLine 2 bidirectional radio drives and components work at 868 MHz; it gives no band for the unidirectional ProLine family on the pages read. As with any sub-GHz system, range indoors is reduced by metal shutter boxes, metallised glass and concrete; place external receivers so their antenna is clear of metal.

Topology. Each receiver stores the transmitters taught to it. A multi-channel transmitter can address single motors, groups or all motors. Central timer units handle schedules and sun or wind sensor inputs for larger installations.

Power. Motors and receivers are mains powered (230 V in Europe), with the radio always listening. Transmitters are battery powered; wireless sensors may be solar or battery powered.

Hubs and apps. Basic remote control needs no hub. App control, scenes and links to smart-home platforms use an elero gateway or central unit; available models differ by market.

End limits and protection. Electronic motors store end positions and may offer obstacle and freeze detection. Limits are set with the procedure in the motor manual, usually with a transmitter or a setting cable. These functions protect the shutter and the people using it and should stay enabled.

Interoperability and bridges

ProLine is proprietary to elero; transmitters from other manufacturers do not address ProLine receivers directly.

  • elero documents which transmitters and receivers can be combined across ProLine and ProLine 2; older and newer devices can coexist where the data sheet says so.
  • Smart-home integration runs through an elero gateway or central unit. The manufacturer lists the supported apps, voice assistants and platforms for each gateway.
  • Some third-party gateways and open-source integrations advertise elero support; they are outside elero's scope and their feature coverage varies.
  • In KNX or other wired building systems, the usual route is a wired actuator switching a wired elero motor, or a gateway documented by elero.

Confirm the exact model combination with the current elero documentation before quoting a mixed system.

Pairing and reset notes

Generic sequence; exact steps, button combinations and confirmation movements are in the elero manual for each device:

1. Have the motor or receiver connected by a qualified person in line with local electrical rules, and set the end limits as described in the motor manual. 2. Open the receiver's learning mode, typically by switching its power on or with an already-taught transmitter. 3. Start the learning procedure on the new transmitter channel; the motor confirms by moving briefly. 4. Repeat per motor or group and record which channel controls which window.

Pitfalls: several receivers on one circuit can enter learning mode at the same time after a power cycle, so work one motor at a time or isolate circuits; a reset deletes all taught transmitters, so keep the master transmitter and a channel list for handover; mixing ProLine and ProLine 2 devices works only in the combinations the manufacturer lists. Do not switch off obstacle or freeze detection to get past a mechanical problem.

Buying checklist

  • Check whether existing devices on site are ProLine or ProLine 2 before adding components.
  • Decide whether confirmation or position feedback is needed and choose transmitters that display it.
  • Check which elero gateway supports the app or smart-home platform you plan to use in your market.
  • For retrofits of wired motors, confirm a suitable flush-mounted or external receiver is available.
  • Match motor torque, shaft profile and end-limit type to the shutter, awning or blind.
  • Ask how master transmitters and reset steps are documented at handover.
